Indianapolis—The Webby Awards, the leading international honor for the Web, recently recognized Lumina Foundation for Education's Camino a la Universidad Web site as an Official Honoree. The Webby Awards recognize work that demonstrates remarkable achievement. The Web site was produced by Lumina Foundation staff in collaboration with Brainstorm, a nationally acclaimed leader in creative business and marketing resources.
"The Webby Awards honor outstanding work that sets the standards for the Internet," said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. "Lumina's Official Honoree selection for the Camino site is a testament to the skill, ingenuity, and vision of its creators."
"The Camino a la Universidad Web site distributes valuable information and research related to the significant gap in Latino educational attainment," said Jamie Merisotis, president and CEO of Lumina Foundation for Education. "By fostering and initiating dialogue and, more importantly, action, we hope to drive efforts to reduce or eliminate that attainment gap and systematically promote Latino student success in postsecondary education."
Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by The New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including Web sites, interactive advertising, online film & video, and mobile Web sites. The awards are judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, a global organization that includes David Bowie, Harvey Weinstein, Arianna Huffington, Matt Groening, Jamie Oliver, Internet inventor Vinton Cerf, and RealNetworks CEO Rob Glaser.
The 12th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from more than 60 countries and all 50 states. Out of more than the 10,000 entries submitted, fewer than 15% received this honor and were deemed an Official Honoree. Other awardees this year include Amnesty International, Get On Board, and Just in Queso.
