
Rob Shorette
Strategy Officer for Student Success
Rob Shorette, Ph.D., is the strategy officer for student success for Lumina Foundation, an independent, private foundation in Indianapolis committed to making learning opportunities beyond high school available to all. In this role, Shorette manages a portfolio of grants designed to foster more equitable outcomes for Black, Latino, and Indigenous students, leading to increased completion of Bachelor’s degrees.
Before joining Lumina, Shorette was the manager of faculty success programs and external relations after serving as a program officer for the California Education Learning Lab, a grantmaking initiative of the California Governor’s Office of Planning and Research. Before the Learning Lab, Shorette was with the California State University Office of the Chancellor, where he served as the director of special initiatives for academic success and inclusive excellence after serving as the executive director of the Cal State Student Association.
For the past 15 years in higher education, Shorette has focused on ensuring equity in student success through strategic grant programming, advocating for students’ needs, coordinating student programs and services, and producing research on diversity and equity in higher education. His professional experience includes working at both public and private college campuses and nonprofit research and advocacy organizations.
Shorette holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from Florida A&M University, a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration with a concentration in policy from The George Washington University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education from Michigan State University.
