Matthew Wilson is director of information technology for Lumina Foundation, an independent, private foundation in Indianapolis committed to making opportunities for learning beyond high school available to all.

Wilson is a true IT generalist, bringing over 20 years of IT experience across broad technology areas, including strategy, leadership, compliance, budgeting, licensing, networking, procurement, and end-user support. His practical human-first approach to technology leadership focuses on putting the user at ease and removing barriers to allow his staff to excel and business processes to flow. His emphasis on teamwork and collaboration holds true, whether the task is adopting new technologies, evaluating current ones, or changing a tire in the parking lot for a stranded team member.

He began his IT career in higher education as the Systems Administrator for the Institute for Study Abroad-Butler University, providing technical support and help desk leadership for their worldwide operations.   From there, he branched out into the insurance industry, working as a Systems Administrator for a large software development team. Before joining Lumina, he came from the defense industrial base (DIB), serving as the Director of Information Technology for CMS Corporation, an award-winning Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) federal construction contractor.  He was responsible for IT strategy, mentoring, and leadership, and managing technical support for 200+ users on construction sites across the continental US, Hawaii, Guam, Japan, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, and Wake Island.

Wilson holds a BA in Telecommunications from Indiana University, where he served as a Resident Assistant at Paul V. McNutt Quadrangle and performed in the IU Soul Revue African American Arts Ensemble. He is an active Indianapolis musician, including annual work in the pit band for Kid’s Dance Outreach, which provides high-quality inclusive dance education for all children.  He resides in the Irvington neighborhood of Indianapolis with his wife Megan and two boys, Amos and Arlo.
