Combining work and college is the new normal for today’s college students, concludes a report from the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce. About 40 percent of undergraduates and 76 percent of graduate students work at least 30 hours a week, the study shows. The report notes that while working and learning may result in better education and stronger career prospects—especially when students have jobs related to what they study—working too much can reduce completion rates for low-income and first-generation college students.
