The nature of work is changing rapidly. Technological changes—in particular advancements in machine learning and deep learning—have sparked alarmist predictions of massive job obsolescence. Some educators, policymakers, employers, and others say that the “hard” skills of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) are the most critical skills in this age of automation. Others think only the uniquely “human” skills of the liberal arts will survive. A new report believes it’s both. The most valuable workers now, and in the future, are those who combine technical knowledge with human skills.
The study’s findings are based on an analysis of more than 100 million job postings, resumes, and social profiles.
